Hit and run truck driver caught

The truck driver drove into a woman's car on Main reef Road and immediately fled from the scene.

A truck driver has been caught and handed a hefty traffic fine after he smashed into a woman’s car and fled from the scene.

The incident occurred on Main Reef Road near the R41.

According to Randfontein traffic officer Velaphi Gumede, he and his partner Joseph Khumalo were headed to a road block on the R41 when they were hailed by a woman on the side of the road.

“We were on our way to conduct a roadblock when a woman hailed us and told us what had happened.

“We were given a description of the truck and informed in which direction it had fled.

“Fortunately, we managed to catch up to the truck on the R41 near the Azaadville intersection,” says Gumede, who adds that the truck driver was then instructed to turn back and go to the accident scene were a report was filed.

According to Gumede, traffic officers will not tolerate anyone who acts above the law on the roads.

“I cannot stress how important it is to take accountability of your actions as a motorist.

“It doesn’t help to bump into someone and think that you can get away with it.

“The long arm of the law will definitely catch up with you,” says Gumede.
