Three arrested after high speed chase

One suspect was injured after he jumped out of a moving vehicle during the high speed chase with the police.

A high speed chase between three suspects and the police ended up in a successful arrest recently.

This comes after a delivery vehicle carrying cigarettes worth a substantial amount of money was hijacked in Khutsong and ended up on the Finsbury road (R559) in Randfontein.

According to Randfontein police spokesperson Appel Ernst, the suspects removed the cigarettes from the delivery truck after the hijacking and placed them in their own vehicle.

“The events surrounding the hijacking remain a bit sketchy but I can state that the cigarette vehicle was hijacked in Khutsong and the police were notified of this.

“The Carletonville K9 unit and their airwing then gave chase and managed to catch up to the suspects in Randfontein where they managed to apprehend them.

“The stolen items were found in their possession,” says Ernst who adds that fortunately, no shots were fired during the chase and their arrest.
