Police holds crime awareness campaign

Criminals target the Randfontein CBD and Greenhills specifically.

The theft of vehicles and theft out of vehicles is said to be on the rise in Randfontein.

This was revealed during a crime awareness campaign held by the Randfontein police last week.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Appel Ernst, the objective of the campaign was to interact with the different communities in Randfontein and to address crimes that are prevalent in the specific areas.

“We have come to realise that criminals target the Randfontein CBD and Greenhills specifically.

“Owing to this, we decided to focus on these areas to create awareness of these crimes,” says Ernst.

She adds that in line with this, police offices were distributing pamphlets at verious places in Greenhills and the CBD.

Ernst urges motorists to constantly be vigilant when locking their vehicles.

“Never leave valuables in the car when you step out and make sure you lock your car properly.

“Criminals are always out and about looking for someone to prey on.

“Make sure that your vehicle’s alarm system is activated before leaving the vehicle.

“Criminals are able to jam the alarm activations signal from a remote control, so do not just press the button and walk off.

“Rather make sure it is properly activated.”
