Lenmed celebrates Nurse’s Day

This was to honour the founder of modern day nursing, Florence Nightingale and to encourage local nurses to resembel her spirit in their profession.

Lenmed Private Hospital celebrated Nurses Day on12 May in commemoration of well-known nurse of the 18th Century, Florence Nightingale.

Nightingale is the founder of modern nursing and is famously known for her selfless service in treating wounded soldiers during the Crimean war in 1820.

According to Lenmed Nursing Services Manager Martis Kirsten, the purpose of the event was to inspire their nurses to resemble the spirit of Nightingale in their profession.

“I think that nurses are privileged to be in the profession that they are in because it’s not just a job but a calling.

“For one to do this, one needs to be strong and compassionate enough to take on the ills of the world with passion and we see that with our own nurses.

“Surely they are life savers in every essence of the word,” says Kirsten

At the event, the nurses also lit their candles and took a pledge to practice their profession with conscience and dignity.

They also pledged that the health of patients will be their first priority.
