Well-known businessman Reggie Nkabinde handed out blankets and food parcels to the community of Bekkersdal and hosted a benefit concert thereafter.

Former Bekkersdal resident, politician and well-respected businessman Reggie Nkabinde hosted a successful ‘Remember your roots’ benefit concert at the Westonaria Sports Stadium.

This was in celebration of his birthday.

Famous artists such as Big Nuz, Uhuru, Heavy K, Dr Malinga and many more took to the stage to entertain the crowd. Entry to the event was free and open to the public.

Reggie handed out blankets and food parcels to the community of Bekkersdal with the help of famous actors from TV soapies Isibaya and Muvhango namely Florence Mokgatsi (Lerato) and Melusi Yeni (Pat) as well as Raphael Griffiths (Vusi).

According to him the aim of both the event was to give back to the community of Bekkersdal and Westonaria, hence the theme of ‘Remember your roots’.

“I was born and bred in Bekkersdal and I didn’t grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth.

“I know what poverty feels like and that is why I want to give back to the community.

“I believe that as people we have to assist each other to eradicate poverty and we should not always rest things on the shoulders of the government,” says Reggie who urges that influential people be involved in uplifting their communities.

Reggie is involved also in helping the Sizabantu NGO and has donated sewing machines to the elderly citizens within the organisation to empower themselves by possibly starting their own small sewing business.

He adds that he is looking forward to seeing young people from all walks of life better themselves.
