EPR arrests robbery suspects

Reaction officers caught the suspects shortly after they spotted them in their failed getaway attempt.

Two suspects were caught and arrested by EPR reaction officers after a botched robbery at a residence in Mimosa Street, Greenhills on 5 May.

According to EPR Operations Manager Mac van Zyl the incident occurred at approximately 11.20am.

“We received a panic alarm signal from one of our clients on the day and immediately dispatched reaction officer Marius Strydom to the scene.

“Upon arrival, he spoke to the housekeeper and immediately noticed something strange.

“He asked her a few questions during which she was able to signal that there were two suspects in the house,” says Van Zyl.

While speaking to the woman, Strydom spotted the two suspects jumping over the boundary wall and immediately gave chase.

He managed to call for backup and caught up to one of the suspects and arrested him.

Senior reaction officer August Hiepner was quick to respond to the call and based on a description of the second suspect, he managed to arrest him in the vicinity of the incident.

Upon investigation it was found that the suspects had entered the house through a broken window.

Both suspects were handed over to the police.

“We would like to commend our officers for their bravery,” says an elated Van Zyl.

“They have made us very proud.”
