RHS holds Mother’s Day memorial service

RHS held a Mother's Day memorial service for pupils who have lost their mothers.

Randfontein High School held an emotional Mother’s Day memorial service for pupils who have lost their mothers.

At the school hall more than 50 pupils were given the opportunity to honour their late or absent mothers by lighting candles and writing down messages or prayers for them.

Mother’s Day is celebrated on 11 May nationwide.

According to Randfontein High School spokesperson Jason Fischer, the Mother’s Day memorial is an annual event and has been held for four years.

“The aim of this event is to give our pupils emotional support, especially during this difficult time when people will be showing appreciation and honour for their mothers.

“A mother really is an important person in one’s life and life can be very difficult without one. We want our pupils to know that we are there for them every step of the way.

“They wrote messages or a prayers on a piece of paper and insert it into a small bottle tied around a string.

“They then placed their bottles in a tree here at the school in remembrance of their beloved mothers.

“We hope this brings comfort and healing to them,” says Fischer who adds that counselling will be given continuously to those who need it.
