Gauteng Premier launches business hub in Mohlakeng

A whopping 19 million was spent to establish the project and another 7 million will be spent in the next 3 years for its administration.

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane together with the MEC for Economic Development in Gauteng Mxolisi Xayiya launched the Mohlakeng Enterprise Hub in Mohlakeng on 15 April

The purpose of the hub is to stimulate entrepreneurship and foster skills development as well as create job opportunities in the township where possible.

A whopping 19 million was spent to establish the project and another 7 million will be spent in the next 3 years for its administration.

According to Mokonyane, this will help reduce unemployment amongst the youth.

“We have committed immeasurable support to Small Micro and Medium Enterprises (SMME’) over the past 20 years and more so in the previous five years.

“Our aim is to improve the competitiveness of small local enterprises and enable them to run sustainable businesses and participate meaningfully in the mainstream economy,” says Mokonyane

The Hub will comprise of machinery and equipment to make various enterprises in the manufacturing sector more competitive.

There will also be a free use of operational premises and facilities such as internet, training rooms, board rooms and admistrative support centres.

According to Mokonyane, she always desired to have a township hub of this kind and says that this is expected to empower the people of the West Rand.

“We as the Gauteng government want to create opportunities were peoples skills can be developed.

“Most importantly we also wan to create jobs for those who run their trade at their backyards,” says Mokonyane

Meanwhile, Xayiya also shared the same sentiments and said that the quality of local businesses and the products thereof are bound to change and will no longer be undermined.

He also announced that the hub will be managed by the Gauteng Enterprise Propeller (GEP) in partnership with the Randfontein Local Municipality and other private sector partners by the likes of Gold One Mining, Filpro Busmark and Westcol amongst others.
