Griqua King visits Toekomsrus

The purpose of the event was really to highlight the existence of the rich culture and heritage of the Griqua nation.

The King of the Griqua nation Adam Kok V, recently visited Toekomsrus for a cultural festival to celebrate the Griqua culture.

The King, who was accompanied by Queen Coreen Kok, was warmly received at the Toekomsrus Community Hall.

The Griqua nation is made up of five nations namely the Griqua, the Nama, the Korana, the Cape Khoi and the Bushman People (san).

According to Griqua Traditional Community Youth Director David Matthews, the community of Toekomsrus was thrilled to be visited by a king who could share his knowledge on their history and their heritage.

“The purpose of the event was really to highlight the rich history and culture of the Griqua people,” says Matthews.

“As torch bearers for the Griqua nation, we cannot allow our culture and the living sons and daughters of Adam Kok be forgotten.”
