Driver plows into schoolgirls

The officer found that one of the girls were seriously injured, while a second girl sustained minor injuries to her legs as a result of the collision.

A local motorist has been charged with reckless and negligent driving after allegedly driving into a group of schoolgirls walking along Selope Thema Street in Mohlakeng.

According Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, the incident occurred at approximately 2pm on 7 March.

“The traffic officer at the scene alleged that when he arrived at the accident scene, he found a vehicle at the side of the road, where it hit a young girl,” says Ernst.

“Further investigation indicated that the driver lost control of the vehicle drove into a group of girls walking home from school.

The officer found that one of the girls were seriously injured, while a second girl sustained minor injuries to her legs as a result of the collision.

“The seriously injured girl was removed to a local hospital for medical treatment and a case of reckless and negligent driving is being investigated and witness statements are being obtained.”
