Sibanye Gold launches revision programme for matrics

The programme caters for 70 pupils who have intentions of persuing careers in the mining, engineering and metallurgy field.

Sibanye Gold in partnership with the Department of Education launched a Grade 12 revision programme for learners from 11 different schools within the Westonaria Local Municipality and Merafong City.

The programme caters for 70 learners who have intentions of persuing careers in the mining, engineering and metallurgy industries.

According to Human Capital Development Manager at Sibanye Gold Academy Sherin Ramparsad, this was the first of 15 sessions that will run until September.

“We have identified those who have wishes of persuing careers in the mining, engineering and metallurgy industries and decided launch this initiative to help both the learners as well as the industry.

“During the course of the programme, they will be doing revision on mathematics, physical science, geography and life sciences,” says Ramparsad who adds that this is in line with the above mentioned career choices.

He adds that this will improve on their overall marks and says that the Sibanye Gold Academy will be addressing learners on their roles and responsibilities during this programme.

“If anything, this is one of the many ways to show that we are committed in assisting leaners and the communities around our company’s operations.

“Not only will this better the lives of individuals selected, it will also have a ripple effect in terms of empowerment in communities in the long run,” says Ramparsand.

The Herald spoke to the Department of Education West Rand District Director Peter Skosana who said that the selected pupils were fortunate to have been selected to be part of the programme.

He urged pupils to make the best of this opportunity.
