Chiya’s fraud trial to go ahead

Chiya stands accused of identity fraud after he allegedly obtained credit using a false Identity Document. He was said to be under sequestration at the time.

Randfontein Local Municipality spokesperson Lucky Chiya‘s trial is set to start soon following news that investigations into his identity fraud case have been finalised.

This was announced on 1 April at the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court where Chiya made his fifth appearance following the controversial charges.

His case has been postponed to 11 April.

According to information received, Chiya’s case will be moved from the Randfontein District Court to the Randfontein Regional Court owing to the fact that the Distrct Court does not have the jurisdiction to deal with the matter.

Chiya was arrested on 3 December after it came to light that he allegedly had used a fraudulent ID to obtain credit.

Chiya allegedly was under sequestration and has refused to comment on the charges

He has since been out on R5 000 bail.
