Good samaritan hijacked

The man was stopped by suspects who pretended to be lost and asked for directions.

A 51-year-old man and his colleague were victims of a hijacking incident after they were stopped by four men traveling in a Mercedes-Benz Vito bus.

The incident occurred in Brandvlei on 26 March, when the victim pulled over to help the driver of the Mercedes Vito, who pretended to be lost and wanting directions.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, the suspects approached the victms on foot to get the directions and that is when they were attacked.

“While the victim was giving out the directions, two of the suspects produced firearms and pointed them at the victims and continued to threaten them.

“They were then forced out of their vehicle and placed into the back of the Vito while one of the suspects drove off with the victim’s vehicle, an Isuzu Bakkie,” says Ernst.

She adds that the suspects later dropped them off in a veld near Kagiso.

Ernst says that the victim’s bakkie was fully loaded with electrical equipment worth a substantial amount of money.

Fortunately no shots were fired during the incident and no one sustained any serious injuries.
