Get your free screening for Venous Reflux Disease

If you suspect that you may suffer from Venous Reflux Disease, get your free screening at Robinson Private Hospital on 29 March.

If your legs ache or feel heavy, particularly at the end of the day and you experience itching, burning, cramping, throbbing or swelling in your legs, chances are that you suffer from Venous Reflux Disease.

Now is your chance to get a free screening for this disease at Life Robinson Private Hospital on 29 March.

Healthy legs contain valves that permit blood to move in one direction from your legs to your heart.

These valves open when blood is flowing and close to avoid backward flow of blood.

When your veins weaken they can no longer move your blood to your heart which causes blood to pool in your legs.

“A number of people suffer from undiagnosed Venous Reflux Disease and varicose veins,” says Dr Alexander Faber, general surgeon at Life Robinson Private Hospital.

“Often no symptoms are present however the veins on their legs look dark blue, swollen and twisted under the skin.”

“There are a number of causes that leads to the disease such as genetics, obesity, lack of physical activity, multiple pregnancies, age, past history of blood clots in the legs and professions that involve long periods of standing,” says Alexander.

Venous Reflux Disease can be detected by ultra-sound; the leg is scanned to determine the presence of venous reflux.

Should the results be positive treatment can be recommended.

Dr Alexander Faber will be conducting free of charge Venous Reflux Disease screenings on Saturday, 29 March from 8am at Life Robinson Private Hospital.
