US contributes to local library

This will see the Westonaria Library receive new resources such as books, dvd's, audio-visuals electronics, wi-fi and tablets amongst other things.

This was to erect the United States Library Corner within the existing Westonaria Library.

According to Westonaria Local Municipality Executive Mayor Nonkoliso Tundzi, this was also to analyze the needs to the community of the greater Westonaria.

“The objective of this project is to empower and improve skills development among our people and the initiative is very welcome.

“This will see the Westonaria Library receive new resources such as books, dvd’s, audio-visual resources, wi-fi and tablets among other things,” says Tundzi.

She adds that the programme as initiated by the American Consulate consists of computer skills training and social media skills training worth R600 000 inclusive of all facilities.

The programme is expected to be funded annually by an additional R100 000.

According to Tundzi, Westonaria is one of the poor municipalities in the province and they appreciate any assistance that aims to develop, transform and uplift the community.

“We are really overwhelmed by the international support.

“Education is the priority for us as an ANC-led government and this will definitely boost us in that department,” says Tundzi.

Meanwhile, during the visit one of the local pupils from Westonaria High School Refilwe Tladi was offered a trip to Washington DC for a leadership skills programme.
