W’aria gets new fleet of traffic cars

This is expected to increase traffic officers visibility in the area and strenghten law enforcement.

The Westonaria Local Municipality has purchased a new fleet of vehicles for the Westonaria Traffic Department and says that this will improve on traffic policing and ensure that law enforcement is tightened throughout Westonaria.

The fleet of four Chevrolet vehicles was bought on 28 February and is expected to bring about positive dynamics in the traffic department.

According to the MMC for Public Safety within the municipality Thokozani Mncube, having reviewed the previous fleet within the traffic unit, it was evident that many of the existing vehicles were aging and had high mileage.

“Pro-active traffic policing, patrolling and law enforcement requires increased visibility in areas which are considered crime hot spots and especially where traffic legislation is often disregarded.

“The arrival of the additional vehicles will certainly allow for increased traffic officer presence and faster response times.

“This will also to ensure safety for all our road users,” says Mncube.

She adds that this is the first batch of the traffic vehicles as the municipality has a long term plan to reinforce the unit and is confident that other vehicles will arrive soon.

According to Westonaria Local Municipality Executive Mayor Nonkoliso Tundzi, the fleet will take response time to a new all high.

“We are highly excited about this fleet

“Our residents and motorists can rest assured that the traffic policing department will see improvement,” says Tundzi.

This despite claims by the municipality recently that they were facing serious financial challenges due to non-payment for municipal services, and approximately R190 million being owed to them by consumers, local business, as well as other government departments.
