Chiya fraud trial drags on

Randfontein Local Municipality spokesperson Lucky Chiya was caught using a false Identity Document to obtain credit.

Randfontein Local Municipality has appeared at the Randfontein Magistrates' Court where his case was postponed.

Randfontein Local Municipality spokesperson Lucky Chiyan has made his fourth appearance at the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on 5 March on charges of identity fraud where his case was postponed

This is to allow for further investigation into the case has caused much uproar from Randfontein residents and local political parties who have since called for his suspension pending the outcome of the case.

Chiya was arrested on 3 December after it came to light that he allegedly had used a fraudulent ID to obtain credit.

Chiya allegedly was under sequestration.

He has since been out on R5 000 bail.

He will appear again at the Randfontein Magistrates Court on 1 April.
