Potholes cause another massive accident

This despite the municipality's promises that potholes are a thing of the past.

Another accident has occurred on 4 March after a motorist hit a pothole and drove into a boundary wall.

This was at the Lazaar at approximately 10.50 am.

According to DA local ward Councilor Peter Dick, upon his arrival at the scene, he was informed that two men who were traveling in a white VW bakkie where traveling from Fordsburg and were headed towards North West when the incident occurred.

“From what I understand, the driver of the vehicle hit one of the many potholes on the road and lost control of his vehicle.

“He then drove into a fence and subsequently smashed into a boundary wall,” says Dick.

He adds that the driver and his passenger were fortunate to get out of the ordeal unharmed.

Meanwhile, residents of Randfontein are evidently not happy with the repairs of potholes by the Randfontein Locasl Municipality, saying that the municipality was warned ahead of time that something like this would happen should the potholes continue being fixed in a substandard manner.

According to the resident who owns the property where the incident occured Henry Retief, he is determined to hold the municipality accountable for the damage to his property.

“I cannot tell you how many times I personally contacted the municiapltiy about these potholes

“I told them ahead of time that something like this would happen but they chose not to listen.

“Now I am sitting with a damaged wall and the poor motorist now has a car to worry about,” says Retief.

He adds that the potholes were fixed approximately two weeks ago, but that they have reappeared.

This despite assurances by the Randfontein Local Municipality that potholes are being properly fixed in Randfontein.
