Court is not in session

Frustrated court goers were still waiting for the presiding Magistrate to show up at 10.15am.

Tensions are running high at the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court where the identity fraud case of Randfontein Municipal spokesperson Lucky Chiya, and numerous other cases were supposed to commence on 27 February.

Herald reporter, Nonkululeko Mathebula was among scores of people waiting for cases to start, but by 10.15am, there was still no word from court officials as to when cases would commence.

According to Mathebula, she showed up at the court at approximately 9am to cover the Chiya case, but after more than an hour of waiting, she decided to find out what the delay was.

It turns out that the delay was due to the fact that the presiding Magistrate had not yet showed up at court.

Mathebula then went in search of the court manager, Collins Madiba, to enquire what the problem was, only to find out that Madiba also was not at work.

Meanwhile, frustrated court goers are still gathered outside courtroom three, waiting for the day’s proceedings to commence.
