Traffic Department slammed by former director

Supervision has apperently gone to the dogs at the department as traffic officers allegedly do as they please.

The Randfontein Traffic Department has come under fire from former department director Ronnie Molao after his contract came to and end and was not not renewed.

“The Randfontein Traffic Department is currently in shambles and no one can fix it,” says Molao.

“There is simply no command or control in that department and the traffic officers do just as they please.

“They come to work when they feel like it and there is simply no one to reprimand them.”

According to Molao, his efforts at establishing order at the Randfontein Traffic Department was unsuccessful because of people working against him.

He adds that traffic officers hardly do their street visits and are often galavanting in the streets during working hours.

Asked whether these allegations are made because he is no longer part of the department, Molao says that he is only calling a spade a spade, adding  that he is happy to have left.

The Herald has contacted Randfontein Traffic Chief Kenny Mampondo who slammed these allegations and says that Molao is simply bitter because his contract has expired and was not renewed.

“There is simply no truth to these allegations and I think that Molao is bitter.

“Our traffic officers are constantly in the streets of Randfontein enforcing bylaws.

“I am in charge of them and I monitor their movements constantly.

“We are always busy with bylaw enforcement and have road blocks regularly.

“I don’t know what prompted this from him but I must say that I am disappointed,” says Mampondo.

He adds that  the department is busy short listing applicants for Molao’s vacant position and says that a director will be appointed soon.
