Supporting and nurturing the young

Carryou Ministry counts themselves fortunate to help youth members from Randfontein to reach their educational dreams.

Randfontein — “At Carryou Ministry we believe the youth of this country is our future and it is our duty to support, nurture and develop young people.”

This the words of Carryou Ministry General Manager, Lawrence Mabaso.

“Recently we met with 14 grade 12 pupils with whom we were involved last year.

“The purpose of the meeting was to show support and act as mentors and coaches should they need us.”

“Some of the youngsters are well on the way to success.

“For example, Martha Come and Mavis Makope were admitted to the Witbank FET College and we transported them there, along with all they need for their daily living.

“Martha is registered for a Human Resources and Public Relations course, while Mavis is following the ESD Educational Line in her career path,” says Lawrence.

“Mpho is a young lady, aged 18, from Toekomsrus, studying Electrical Engineering at the Krugersdorp Westcol FET college and is extremely determined to make a success of her life.”

From the Elandsvlei Drop-in Centre, Carryou Ministry has nine grade 12 pupils who wrote matric last year.

Of those, six passed but did not qualify for university exemption.

“We were able to encourage them to acquire computer skills.

“The cost of computer training per individual, including transport is R6 000 over a period of three months but once they have completed the training they will have a recognised computer certificate,” says Lawrence.

“The other three pupils from Elandsvlei passed well and were granted bursaries.

“Tshepo Motshega was the top student at Ithuteng High School and was given a R50 000 bursary and admitted to the University of Johannesburg, to study a B Com degree.”

Another pupil is studying Psychology at one of the colleges in Rosebank.

“We are delighted to be able to play a part in assisting these fine young men and women to achieve their dreams and we anticipate they will play a significant role in this country’s future,” Lawrence concludes.
