RHS hosts historic Inter High

Randfontein High School boasts with a successful English Inter High School Athletics competition, which they hosted.

Randfontein High School hosted the very prestigious annual English Inter-high athletics meeting at the Greenhills Stadium in Randfontein on 15 February.

This is the oldest English Inter-high meeting of its kind in the country and was established in 1956.

The Athletics Trophy as well as the Spirit Trophy are always highly sought after by the competing schools which included General Smuts High School, Vaal High School, Riverside High School, Suncrest High School, Carleton Jones High School and Randfontein High School.

After many years of not seeing any athletics at Randfontein’s very own sports facility, Randfontein High School together with the visiting schools, transformed the Greenhills Stadium into a festive celebration of athletics.

Once again, the spirited singing of the schools echoed around Randfontein as the spectators competed for the coveted Spirit Trophy.

The Spirit Trophy was adjudicated by students from the North West University’s cultural committee and they were blown away by the originality, uniformity and discipline of the various schools.

At the end of the day, Randfontein High School, with their theme of the “RHS side of life – Open Happiness” made a clean sweep of all the trophies and also walked away with the Spirit Trophy, which will remain in Randfontein until next year.

A total of six records were broken and three were equalled by athletes from RHS.

At the end of the day RHS triumphed with 756 points, while General Smuts took the second place with 583 points.

The third place went to Suncrest High with 419 points.

These points were accumulated according to the Absa Athletics Table.
