Elderly man stabbed to death

Police officers found several stab wounds on his body and his neck. He was declared dead at the scene.

A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a 57-year-old resident of the Mohlakeng Hostel to death on 15 February.

This was revealed by Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Erns who says that police officers were called out to the scene of a fight when they made the arrest.

“Basically police officers were called out to the scene of a fight on the day in question.

“Upon arrival, they were shocked to find the body of a man lying on the ground.

“An investigation was carried out and it was discovered that the man had sustained stab wounds to his body and his neck,” says Ernst.

She adds that owing to this, paramedics were called out and the man was declared dead at the scene.

While this happened, police officers at the scene conducted further investigations and found that the suspect accused of killing the man was still in the vicinity of where the incident occurred.

He was immediately arrested and taken into police custody.

He appeared at the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on 17 February where his case was remanded.

The matter will be heard again on 24 February.
