Man kills himself after shooting lover

This was during a domestic dispute where the man turned violent on his partner and produced a firearm.

A man has died after he shot himself during a domestic dispute with his girlfriend on 1 February in the Zenzele informal settlement.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, it is currently unclear as to what started the fight but it is alleged that the deceased (49) and his life partner (33) had an argument prior to the bloodbath.

“Information received indicates that the deceased became overly aggressive during the argument and produced a firearm.

“He shot his girlfriend and wounded her and later turned the firearm on himself,” says Ernst.

She adds that the woman was stabilized at the scene and later taken to hospital where she is currently in a serious but stable condition.

Ernst has condemned the use of violence in disputes and says that no domestic dispute should result in the death of any of the partners.

She adds that the Randfontein SAPS has a Victim Support Centre that can provide services such as counselling and referrals for professional assistance in domestic matters.

The contact person for this is Bongi Langa and she can be reached on 011 767 2300.
