Bekkersdal residents boycot voter registration weekend

Residents say that registering to vote and the voting process would only be a fruitless exercise.

Residents of Bekkersdal are still defiant and have refused to register to vote in the upcoming elections.

This was revealed during a recent community meeting on 6 February where residents of the area expressed their dissatisfaction with the ruling party and say that they did not register to vote because the ANC-led government will continue to rule despite not fulfilling their promises where service delivery is concerned.

According to the Greater Westonaria Concerned Residents’ Association spokesperson Thabang Wesi, registering to vote and voting overall would only be a fruitless exercise for the residents of this town.

“Residents are not fooled by the call to register to vote because nothing is ever done for them.

“They hardly benefit so that on its own is reason enough not to vote,” says Wesi.

He says that residents will stick to this attitude until their demands are met.

Residents are especially adamant that Westonaria Executive Mayor Nonkoliso Tundzi should be suspended.
