Informal traders to receive stalls

This is to formalize small businesses and also ensure that enrivonmental and health regulations are complied with.

The Westonaria Local Municipality is set to construct trading stalls for informal traders stationed at the Central Business District (CBD), adjacent to the Westonaria taxi rank.

According to Westonaria Local Municipality spokesperson Kgabane Madiehe, this project was initiated by the municipality and is expected to hold approximately 47 stalls.

The project will cost approximately R2 million to complete.

“What we are trying to do with this project is to empower the people of our community and equip them with the necessary tools of trade where we can.

“We want them to know that their services are very much valued and appreciated by the community of Westonaria and creating a formal trading place is one way of honouring them.

“The idea behind this project really is to formalize small businesses and also ensure that enrivonmental and health regulations are complied with,” says Kgabane.

He adds that the project will take approximately two weeks to be completed and beneficiaries will be able to start selling anything from food, accessories and clothing at the stalls.
