Police discover local dagga plantation

This comes after a man was found with a dagga plantation in his yard.

A 48-year-old man has been caught and arrested for growing and dealing in dagga in Venterspost.

This was on 30 January after the Carletonville Cluster Crime Intelligence Unit together with the Soweto K9 unit closed in on him following a tip-off.

According to Westonaria SAPS spokesperson Constable Thembi Masango, a tip-off from a community member led to the man’s plantation on his property and subsequently his arrest.

“Information received indicated that a local man was growing a dagga plantation on his property and we had to investigate the claims.

“Police officers followed up the matter and upon arrival at the property, the suspect’s yard was found to have a dagga plantation that amounted to seven bags of dagga totaling 20 kilograms ,” says Masango

She adds that he was immediately arrested and has appeared at the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on 31 February where his case was remanded.

“We are glad to have made the arrest and we know that more arrests of this nature will follow.

“This is a typical case of what the police can do with the help of the community,” says Masango.
