Water leakage a problem at Friendship Haven

A broken water meter at Friendship Haven causes tremendous water waste since October 2013.

Firendship Haven old age home resident Isabel van den Berg has been struggling with a faulty water meter since October 2013 and despite numerous calls to the Randfontein Local Municipality in this regard, nothing has been done to fix the problem.

She explains that the water meter is leaking and a tremendous amount of water goes to waste each day.

According to the DA ward councillor in the area, Ellik de Lange, Van den Berg and other residents of Friendship Haven reported the problem on numerous occasions, but to this day, the water meter has not been repaired.

“Every time Van den Berg or other residents of Friendship Haven tries to report the problem, they are told that the Randfontein Local Municipality does not have the material with which to repair the faulty water meter,” says De Lange.

He also explains that Van den Berg’s water bill increased significantly over the past year and that this is a result of the water leak at her unit’s water meter.

“This is unacceptable and I urge the Randfontein Municipality to repair the meter as the municipal workers cannot take an accurate reading of the meter.

“Not only is it a huge inconvenience to Friendship Haven and Van den Berg, but thousands of liters of water goes to waste each month,” says De Lange.

According to the spokesperson of the Randfontein Local Municipality, Lucky Chiya, he will look into the matter and give a response in due time.
