Local adult school uplifts the community

This is to provide school leavers to further their education and for matriculants to upgrade their marks.

The community of Toekomrus has established a platform of hope for many school leavers who want to better themselves through education.

This comes in the form of an adult school called Toekomsrus Adult Education Satelite (TAES).

The school also caters for matriculants who failed their matric and wish to rewrite some or all of their subjects.

The school teaches reading and writing to illeterate adult pupils and is run at the Hartzstraat Primary School in Toekomsrus.

It has over 100 pupils.

According to Site Coordinater at the school, Balderic Dreyer, the adult school is a platform aimed at empowering both the young and the old in the community and give them hope for a brighter future.

“What we are trying to do with this is to empower the people in our community, especially the school leavers.

“I just feel that at no point must one sit back and lose hope in life simply because he/she dropped out of mainstream schools, or never got the opportunity to go school.

“I want them to know that giving up is not an option in life and that there is always hope,” says Dreyer.

He adds that their classes run from 4 untill 9 pm and runs up to level four, which is equal to a National Senior Certificate.

“Education is the key to success.

“People can take anything away from you but rest assured that they will never take away your education.

“It is yours to keep for good. What matters is what you do with it,” says Dreyer.
