The war on drugs is on

The police managed to arrest 20 people who were found to be involved in drug-related crimes.

The war on drugs is well and truly underway in Randfontein with the Randfontein SAPS having arrested in excess of 20 people for drug-related offenses during the Festive Season.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst, some of the people that were arrested were caught dealing in various kinds of drugs including dagga, Khat, Cat and Nyaope.

“Police officers on duty throughout the Festive Season made successful arrests and I would like to commend them on a job well done.

“It is worth noting that while we have a cluster task team that deals with drugs throughout the entire West Rand, we as the Randfontein SAPS are constantly looking into this problem.

“Those who were caught with the illegal substances will be brought to book,” says Ernst.

Ernst says that this is merely the tip of the iceberg as far as the drug industry in Randfontein is concerned.

“It’s a bigger problem than most people realise.

“Drugs destroy lives. It wreaks havoc in families and the sooner we are rid of this problem in Randfontein, the better.

“Rest assured that our efforts to eradicate the drug trade in Randfontein will be increased this year and we will not rest until the drug dealers pack up and move on, or are behind bars.

“I hereby urge anyone who is aware of people selling drugs to notify the police immediately.

“Every drug dealer has a neighbour, and if we all take note of what’s happening around us in our communities and in our streets, we can identify and arrest these criminals.”
