Nine foreigners arrested during roadblock

The foreign nationals were found without valid passports.

Nine foreign nationals without valid passports were caught and arrested on 16 Janaury during a roadblock along the R41, also known as Randfontein Road.

The roadblock was conducted as a joint operation between the Randfontein SAPS and the Randfontein Traffic Department.

Police and traffic officers conducted searches on approximately 257 vehicles and at least 560 people were searched.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, the foreign nationals arrested during the operation will likely be deported to their home countries if they cannot produce valid passports.

Fines totaling R5 000 were issued during the course of the roadblock, with traffic infingements ranging from worn out tyres to faulty brakes and dysfunctional lights.

According to Randfontein Traffic Chief, Kenny Mampondo, this is part of an ongoing operation between the two law enforcement agencies to work together in eradicating crime in Randfontein.
