Security guard tackles thief

The suspects were spotted carrying items suspected to have been stolen.

Two suspects have been caught and arrested after stealing implements from a truck on 10 January on the corner of Lazaar Road and Arend Avenue in Helikon Park.

According to EPR Operations Manager Mac van Zyl, an EPR reaction officer was patrolling the area when he saw two suspicious men walking near the veld carrying suspected stolen items and decided to investigate.

“Having spotted the men, reaction officer August Hieper tried to stop the suspects for questioning, but they ran away.

“Acting on instinct, Hieper gave chase and managed to pin one of the suspects down.

“The suspect was found to have been in possession of items suspected to have been stolen from the truck and was immediately arrested,” says van Zyl.

He adds that the man was handed over to the police for further investigation.
