Traffic chief announces shocking Festive Season stats

Over 500 traffic fines were issued in Randfontein for the month of December alone.

The Randfontein Traffic Department has announced shocking statistics with regards to fines issued over the festive season and said that they had a very busy period with rooting out destructive elements throughout Randfontein roads.

This was revealed by Randfontein Traffic Chief Kenny Mampondo who says that over 500 traffic fines were issued in the month of December alone.

A breakdown of the figures indicate that at least 227 drivers were caught and fined for driving without licenses while a total of 246 motorists were caught for driving without fastening their seat belts.

Another 108 motorists were caught for disregarding stop signs while 98 motorists were found with warn out tyres.

According to Mampondo, this is an indication of the attitude road users have towards road rules.

“These statistics paint a clear picture of the situation we are faced with in terms of road users and their disregard for road rules.

“We find that many people only comply with the road rules when they see traffic officers and that is the attitude we are trying to get rid off.

‘We want a society where people behave themselves responsibly on the road despite officers of the law being there or not,” says Mampondo.
