Mayor proud of Bekkersdal matrics

Westonaria Mayor praises the efforts of Bekkersdal matrics.

The turmoil and destruction in Bekkersdal toward the end of 2013 did not seem to stop matriculants from the area from achieving success in the 2013 matric exams.

According to Westonaria Executive Mayor Nonkoliso Tundzi, the matric class of 2013 has done both her, and the entire area proud.

Matriculants in Bekkersdal were placed in a specially constructed residential camp at the beginneing of the exams where they prepared for and wrote their matric exam due to violent protests ravaging the area.

According to Tundzi, this goes to show that the matric class of 2013 was a determined bunch.

“Many of you have reached this point despite living and learning in very difficult circumstances

“We are aware of the severe disruptions experienced during the protest actions and we are proud of the results you have managed to achieve in the midst of such chaos.

“The fact that you managed to make up for lost time is a testimony of your courage, peserverence and hunger for education,” says Tundzi.

She urged those pupils who did not pass their matric exams this year not to give up.

“I hope that the successful learners continue to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them and that many doors will be open to a brighter future.

“For those of you who did not make it, it is not the end of the world.

“Use this year to improve your marks and reflect on your goals” says Tundzi.

She adds that in her efforts to empower learners from Bekkersdal and the greater Westonaria, the municipality has initiated a learnership programme intended to absorb at least 20 learners who will be exposed to both theoretical and practical aspects of the job sector.
