SANBS concerned about blood shortage

Without your donated blood, many patients are in danger of losing their lives.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) has announced that they are experiencing a severe shortage of blood and urge all existing blood donors and prospective donors to do their bit to help save lives by donating blood.

According to SANBS Communications Manager Vanessa Raju, donations seem to drop drastically during the Festive Season.

“We really encourage people to get into the habit of donating blood.

“Even if it’s a once-off, it really will go a long way in ensuring that our blood supply meets the demand.

“Without your donated blood, many patients are in danger of losing their lives,” says Raju.

She adds that the minimum requirements are that a donor has to be between the ages of 16 and 65 years and weighs more than 50kg.

One also must be in good health and live a sexually healthy lifestyle.
