Pupils receive Christmas hampers

Each identified learner received a food hamper worth R500.

Randfontein Listings Services (RLS), a group of ten local estate agencies in Randfontein, handed out 30 food parcels to children who are on a feeding scheme at Randfontein Afrikaans Medium (Laerskool Randfontein) , Laerskool Raportryer and Randfontein English Medium (Randfontein Primary School) on 28 November with ten parcels distributed at each school.

This formed part of their initiative of giving back to the community ahead of the festive season.

According to Laurence von Solms from the RLS, this is an annual initiative aimed at uplifting the community.

“Christmas is a time to love and to give back and we decided to make the lives of children better by handing out food parcels at local schools.

“We have established that most of these children who are on the feeding scheme get to eat only once per day at school.

“But our biggest concern was what happens to them when the schools close.

“Owing to this, we decided to give them food hampers worth R500 each that has essential items such as rice, mealie meal, non perishable items and so forth,” says von Solms.

He adds that although this might not mean much to many, it definitely means a lot to those who are underprivileged and cannot afford these things.

RLS also runs other charity events throughout the year where they give out blankets and clothing items in May to a local charity organisation.

They also host a golf day every September where the profits are used to buy items for the food parcels at this time of the year.
