Gold theft syndicate caught

The suspects were meant to transport the gold to a testing lab in the East Rand.

Three men were found in possession of gold and gold bearing material with an estimated street value of more than R500 000 and were arrested in Homelake on 28 November.

This was during an intelligence driven operation by police officers and the Hawks who closed in on the men and arrested them.

Currently, it remains unclear as to whether they were acting on a tip-off or not but according to a reliable source, two of the suspects are believed to have been contracted to a local mine and were meant to transport the gold to a testing lab in the East Rand.

The third suspect is believed to have been an ex employee of the mine in question however this cannot be confirmed.
