Child (5) dies in shack fire

The child was locked inside the shack at the time of the incident.

A five-year-old boy died a horrific death this morning (18 November) after his home caught fire and went up in flames.

This was at approximately 10am in Peace Haven.

The fire allegedly started while the boy was alone and locked inside the shack while his mother went to a nearby shop.

It is currently unclear as to what started the fire.

The child was allegedly sleeping when the incident occurred. According to one neighbour, the woman was reluctant to wake the child to accompany her to the shop, so she decided to leave him at home.

Upon arrival back home, the mother found the entire shack burnt to the ground.

Paramedics were called out to the scene and upon arrival declared the child dead.

Investigating Officers were also at the scene trying to establish the cause of the fire.
