Woman robbed outside Post Office

Initially she was approached by an unknown woman asking for directions and seconds later an unknown male armed with a firearm emerged.

A 20-year-old woman and her friend were robbed at gunpoint after leaving the Randfontein Post Office on Stubbs Street on 28 October.

It is understood that at the time of the incident, the woman and her friend had just left the post office when they were approached by an unknown woman asking for directions.

Seconds later, an unknown man armed with a firearm emerged from behind them and demanded their personal belongings at gunpoint.

This was at 4:30pm.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, the women handed over their cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

It remains unclear whether the woman and the man were in cahoots but the man fled from the scene on foot.

“It is believed that the incident occurred in a discreet manner.

“Fortunately no shots were fired and no injuries were sustained,” says Ernst.
