Police close in on suspicious men

The suspects were thought to have been orchastrating a house robbery in the area.

Randfontein police surprised three suspicious-looking men believed to have been planning a house robbery in their car while they were driving in Malan Street in Randgate on 1 November.

The suspects and their vehicle were thoroughly searched and their fingerprints taken to identify possible links to any crime scenes.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, nothing was found on the suspects at the scene and they were taken in for questioning at the police station.

“We took the suspects in for questioning and they could not be linked to any crimes that are currently under investigation.

“Subsequently, they had to be released,” says Ernst.

Ernst says that the search comes as a result of the crime prevention initiative where police officers search any suspicious looking people or vehicles during their patrols in the different communities in Randfontein.

She adds that this on its own is a strategy that helps prevent crime before it even happens.
