Police officers celebrate Heritage Day

It is important that people know where they come from.

Randfontein Police officers celebrated Heritage Day in style when they dressed up in their traditional attire instead of their uniforms at the police station on 25 September, a day after the actual Heritage Day.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, the day marks a day where people from different cultures need to gather and celebrate being unique and celebrate their traditions.

“It is important that people know where they come from and where their roots are.

“Considering our diversity in South Africa, it is important to celebrate Heritage Day and instill a mindset of tolerance towards other cultures and traditions.

“This is one of many ways to achieve social cohesion and an understanding of others without looking down on other people simply because they have a different culture.

“We need to remain united as a country and in the work place, despite what other people’s traditions and belief systems are,” says Ernst.

Some opted to indulge in different kinds of cultural foods such as tripe, traditional beverages and Bryani, while others performed traditional dances.
