Local farmer murdered

A butcher's knife was found on top of a diesel tank.

Four men have been arrested following the murder of a local farmer at the Kaalbaasfontein plot in Glenhavie on 27 September.

The incident occurred between midnight and the early hours of the morning and the suspects in question are aged between 19 and 31-years-old.

According to Westonaria SAPS spokesperson Thembi Masango, the farmer was found dead in a pool of blood by one of his workers.

“The farmers employee who’s identity is known to the police arrived at work at approximately 6:45am and immediately noticed that something was strange in the yard.

“He went to the farmer’s house which is in the same property and found that no one was there,” says Masango.

She adds that the man decided to investigate further and went to check the storeroom and that is when he made the shocking discovery.

“He looked through the burglar door and saw his boss lying in a pool of blood.

“The burglar door was still locked and the man noticed that the farmer’s car was also not in the property,” says Masango.

It is understood that the man informed the farmer’s family about the incident and contacted the police shortly after this.

Police found a butcher’s knife on top of a diesel tank.

According to Masango, having followed up on positive leads, the police were able to locate the suspects the following day (28 September)

They were found in the victim’s car in Carletonville and were arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.
