Homelake supermarket robbed

The supermarket is usually frequented by pupils from the nearby high school.

A 36-year-old shopkeeper together with two staff members were tied up and threatened during a business robbery on 4 September in Homelake.

This was at approximately 12:52pm and fortunately there were no customers on the premises at the time of the incident.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, four men entered the shop and produced firearms.

“Two of them threatened the owner and his staff members at gunpoint while the other two suspects continued to bag numerous items from the shop including a laptop,”

“Fortunately no shots were fired and no one was injured,” says Ernst.

She adds that people need to be constantly vigilant even during the day because criminals tend to strike at any given time.

“I would strongly advise shop owners to consider installing panic alarms in their premises to try to avoid such incidents.

“This can really go a long way in helping save someone’s life, or to help stop criminals in their tracks,” says Ernst.

She adds that the supermarket is usually frequented by pupils from a nearby high school.

Anyone who might have any information with regards to the incident can contact investigating officer in the case Warrant Officer Karen Nel on 011 278 8130.
