Police officers take to local creche for an awareness campaign

Children are still shy and somewhat scared of the police.

The Randfontein SAPS together with officers from the Family and Child protection Unit in Krugersdorp visited the Rosemary Khan Creche in Randfontein on 18 September

This was to introduce the children to the people behind the intimidating uniform and familiarize them with other supporting structures in terms of crime.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, this comes after having realized that an information gap exists between the police and the children in terms of awareness, as well as that children have fear towards officers of the law.

“We have come to realize that children are still shy and somewhat scared of the police.

“This is not what we want and we are trying by all means to get rid of this attitude among children.

“We want them to be comfortable enough to actually approach us on any matter,” says Ernst.

Officers at the event interacted with children and showed them how to respond to criminal incidents through a puppet show.
