Municipality snubs pensioner

Municipal workers refuse to collect refuse.

Over 30 refuse bags filled with leaves and other rubbish remain uncollected and under a tree on a pavement outside a resident’s property on North Way in Greenhills.

This comes after the Randfontein Local Municipality’s refuse collectors apparently refused to collect the rubbish stating that it is too much of a load to carry and the resident must sort it out himself.

However, according to 80-year-old pensioner Hannes White, all this rubbish emanates from the fact that the municipality does not cut nor maintain its trees and as a result, leaves get blown into his yard and he ends up sitting with the mess.

“These trees have become a nuisance over the years and I think that its time that the municipality owns up to this problem.

“I have constantly taken the liberty to clean up the area but it ends now.

“They have not offered me any assistance despite the fact that I have contacted them about the problem.

“What upsets me the most is the fact that I actually do all the cleaning together with my gardener, but they cannot lift a finger to assist me in terms of collecting the rubbish.

“This just defeats the purpose.

“Now I am sitting with a situation where rubbish piles up outside my yard and stray dogs just chew on it,” says White.

The Herald has contacted the Municipal spokesperson Lucky Chiya who will revert back with comment in due course.
