W’aria crime stats impressive

Overall, the Westonaria SAPS has seen a decrease in criminal incidents.

Crime statistics for Westonaria indicate that, between April 2013 and March 2013, crime in the area has decreased significantly.

Out of the 29 crime categories reported on, 22 are at a 10-year low, with murder down from 54 in 2011/2012 to 15 in 2012/2013.

The only increases reflected in the statistics are stock theft, which has risen with one case from nine in the previous year to 10 cases, and commercial crime, which has risen significantly from 88 cases in the previous year to 130 cases (a 10-year high) reported.

Sexual crimes remains high at 113 cases for the year, although it is down significantly from the 183 cases in the previous year.

All the most prominent crimes, such as burglary, house robbery, hijacking, business robbery, vehicle theft, drug-related crimes, the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, attempted murder, assault and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, have dropped significantly.
