Illegal railway crossers arrested

Unlike a car, people need to be aware that a train cannot simply swerve to avoid smashing into someone.

More than 40 people were arrested for illegally crossing railway lines in Randfontein in what authorities say is a dangerous, negligent act.

Perpetrators in question were caught and arrested between 23 August and 3 September.

What this means is that people are endangering their lives by crossing the railway line without any regard for the law.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, such acts are condemned as they pose a serious danger to people’s lives.

“People need to take note that there are designated areas where they can cross over the railway lines.

“We do not want a situation where people are killed simply because they were trying to take a short cut to the other side of the railway line,” says Ernst.
