Mayoral bursary applications open

This will allow us to address skills shortage in Randfontein.

The Randfontein Local Municipality is calling on all matriculants within the jurisdiction of Randfontein to apply for the annual Mayoral bursary while they still can.

Applications are open to all matriculants who reside in Randfontein (South African citizens only) with an average of 70 per cent or higher.

Those who do not have their grade 12 matric exemption can apply with thier Grade 11 marks also with an average of 70 per cent or higher.

According to Randfontein Local Municipality Executive Mayor Sylvia Thebenare, the municipality has allocated R1 million for the current financial year to fund prospective students next year.

“In line with the national government initiatives aimed at prioritising education as part of the rulling party’s five year plan, the bursary scheme is aimed at fighting the high rate of illiteracy and unemployment.

“This will allow us to address skills shortages in Randfontein.

“Through such initiatives, I am positive that we will be able to produce people who want to make their lives better and make a meaningful contributions in society,” says Thebenare.

She adds that those who can benefit from the bursary scheme are those who wish to study towards a diploma or a degree in all engineering fields, town planning, commerce and human resources management.

“We are prepared to fund the learners throughout their studies as well as pay for the prescribed books,” says Thebenare.

Application forms are available at the Randfontein Local Municipality offices and only hand delivered applications will be accepted. Applications are open until 15 November.
