Stop sign ignoring motorists fined

Despite many accidents happening, motorists still disregard stop signs and road rules as a whole.

More than 65 motorists were caught red handed ignoring stop signs and have been slapped with heavy traffic fines.

This was on 16 and 17 August during a massive operation initiated by Randfontein traffic officers at stop signs in Helikon Park and Culemborg Park.

According to Randfontein Traffic Chief Kenny Mampondo, several traffic officers were stationed at the numerous hotspots to clamp down on people who disregard the law.

“We have come to realize that despite many accidents happening on a daily basis, motorists still disregard stop signs and road rules as a whole.

“What they fail to understand is that in the blink of an eye, such negligence can result in the death of an innocent law abiding motorist or pedestrian and we have seen it happen on numerous occasions

“We as officers are saying that this kind of attitude is unacceptable and we will not have it on our watch,” says Mampondo.

He is adamant that he together with his traffic officers will work around the clock to put a halt to such activities and ensure safety on public roads in Randfontein.
