Municipality receives refuse removal trucks

This is to empower emerging business owners in the area as well as contribute to the employment sector.

The Enterprise Development Corporation (Tedcor) handed over two refuse collection trucks to the Westonaria Local Municipality at the Westonaria Banquet Hall on 2 September

The refuse removal trucks are to be utilized by elected beneficiaries.

According to Tedcor’s CEO Clarence Hamman, this is to empower emerging business owners in the area as well as contribute to the employment sector.

“We are constantly working with municipalities, local communities and the private sector to provide employment for people from all walks of life.

“By this, not only are we helping put food on people’s tables, but we are equipping people with the necessary skills to further their ventures.

“We also aim to train local residents to become business operators in their own right,” says Hamman.

The two local entrepreneurs who have been elected as the beneficiaries of the trucks are Busi Mpikwa and Thami Jwaqa, who will be tasked with collecting refuse and clearing illegal dumping sites.

According to Westonaria Local Municipality Executive Mayor Nonkoliso Tundzi, each contractor has employed at least ten people who they will work hand in hand with in carrying out the mentioned duties.

“We are happy to have received such a gift for our own residents.

“This is one of the initiatives that are bound to have a ripple effect in terms of benefiting the community at large,” says Tundzi.
